Chefchaouen's medina is very lovely; you should climb to the top to see it at sunset! For that, there is a short, easy walk (only 20 minutes from the old medina) that travels along the river (a site full of activity that I adore, but also full of tourists), traditional residences, and nature before arriving at the Bouzzafar Mosque, which gives a magnificent perspective. With the sunset between two mountains and a perspective of the entire city, you can snap a lot of stunning shots.
Here, it goes up, it goes down, it twists in a brief hilly medina where it is clearly worth getting lost! We see the people who repaint each street at the end of the day, the children who play in the middle of the houses, cute cats who run everywhere
and a lot of small hidden photo spots. And some "instagrammable" spots are paid for per day (ahah, we didn't do it!), We might as well move away a little quietly. In any case, you will find yourself easily, the Medina is not so big is bordered by the ramparts or the river and seven gates.
Restaurants, coffee shops, and street performers abound in the plaza surrounding the Kasbah. It was fantastic. The Kasbah of Chaouen stands in the midst of this festive mayhem.
Shopping in the SOUK
SOUK it's mean market in arabic moroccan language.Clearly, shopping remains one of Chaouen's main activities. We will tell you that it is 10 times cheaper than in the big cities,100% local things,
Many Berber rugs, cushions, or tunics can be found here, as well as fresh vegetables if you want to prepare your own food, or a variety of traditional restaurants (one of my favorites is CAFE CLOCK, which I recommend to everyone for many reasons), wicker or leather bags, wooden objects, dishes, and so on. Fez, Tangier, and Marrakech will all be more intriguing. I have a thing for the Terrae store, where the young designer sells cute pockets and furniture that moves about... Like my renowned mini-stool, which will come in handy for the rest of the journey in my backpack!
You may rent a vehicle or take the bus, like I did, from Tangier or Fez to Chefchaouen! The CTM organization also provides you with regular seats, a pleasant bus with air conditioning, and frequent departures. I went Tangier-Chefchaouen (3 hours for 50DH or 5 Euro) and then Chefchaouen-Fez (4h30 for 80DH). You can wander silently through Chefchaouen's Medina; it's not difficult.
HOUSING
Chefchaouen is very popular with Moroccan and foreign tourists as well, especially on weekends when Moroccans escape in the corner between hikes and walks in the city. Be careful too, many hotels do not offer heating when it gets cold quickly at night (from October to May) so you should ask for it first ... So it is better to think before booking! Personally, there was not much accommodation left, I slept at the CASA HAOUTA hotel for 20 € / night with private bathroom, the rooms were very clean, and the service was very nice, there were big blankets for the night and a big and nice rooftop accessible for customers, also other services, like breakfast etc..
Honestly it was an amazing experience for me, I will never forget people I meet there, hop you like and benefit from my experience, and if you like you can leave a comment and share with your friends, that's will make my day, thank you 😍
